TrueNorth Award 2018

This year, two facilities presented such impressive applications that there are dual recipients of the 2018 TrueNorth Award. Reading Hospital SurgiCenter at Spring Ridge and VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System have each been named a 2018 TrueNorth Award winner. CCI honors perioperative nursing facilities whose "true north" guides the nursing staff to be lifelong learners and models of continuous outstanding patient care.

Reading Hospital SurgiCenter at Spring Ridge

Both Reading Hospital SurgiCenter and VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System were carefully selected as winners, surpassing many impressive facilities. The competitive application process considers certification rates, reward programs and efforts to recognize CNOR certified nurses, as well as the impact certified nurses have on patient care and safety.

Not only does Reading Hospital SurgiCenter boast a 100% certification rate, but the facility shows recognition by an increase to hourly base rate, reimbursement for testing costs, and public recognition in the hospital waiting room. The emphasis on certification has allowed the facility to consistently achieve great outcomes including low infection and complication rates.

VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System

VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System shows their commitment to certification by offering employees annual tuition support, in house CNOR Prep courses hosted by a CNOR Coach, and reimbursement for testing costs. Certified nurses within VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System have assisted in an initiative to decrease surgical site infections and improve patient outcomes, which has resulted in a 33% decrease in surgical site infection rate for colorectal surgeries.

These facilities are the first Ambulatory Surgery Center and VA Hospital to win the TrueNorth Award.
