Eligible Activities
The Following is a List of Eligible Activities to Recertify your CRNFA by Points.
Continuing Education
A maximum of 100 points (50 contact hours) is allowed.
1 contact hour = 2 points
Academic Study
(Must be toward degree completion.)
No maximum - You can acquire unlimited points in this category.
1 semester hour = 15 points.
1 quarter= equals 10 points.
Teaching
(in an academic setting (.e.g., a college or university).
A maximum of two classes per academic year.
Each class = 30 points.
Publishing
Professional Journal Article
A maximum of three articles is allowed
Each article = 25 points.
Chapter in perioperative book
A maximum of three chapters is allowed
Each chapter = 40 points.
Author or editor of perioperative book
Each book = 50 points.
Guest Editor of Journal Issue
A maximum of three is allowed
Each issue = 10 points.
Book Review
A maximum of three reviews is allowed.
Each review = 5 points.
Presentations
All presentations and seminars must be on different topics.
A 30- to 60-minute in-service presentation
A maximum of five presentations is allowed.
Each presentation = 10 points.
A 4- to 8-hour seminar or AORN Congress presentation
A maximum of three seminars is allowed.
Each seminar = 30 points.
Service as a Board or Committee Member for any Professional Healthcare Organization.
A maximum of five different committee participation's is allowed. A maximum of 60 points per year is allowed. A minimum of three meetings per year is required. Please list years served for each board or committee.
National or local committee member. Specialty Assembly Governing Council Each committee participation = 20 points per year.
Service on any committee in a healthcare facility (Examples: hospital, surgery center, physician office, infection control, quality improvement, policy and procedure, education, research.)
Each committee participation = 20 points per year.
Cross Training in a New Area
Examples: GI lab, cath lab, wound care, IV therapy, grand rounds.
A maximum of 90 points is allowed.
Each area = 30 points.
Orientation to a new facility is not eligible.
Precepting/Mentoring in the RNFA Role
A maximum of three different employees is allowed.
Each student/employee = 25 points.
Includes precepting or mentoring either a student RNFA or a new employee RNFA in the RNFA role.
